Reversible fuel electrode supported solid oxide cells fabricated by aqueous multilayered tape casting

Abstract Fuel electrode supported solid oxide cells (SOCs) have been developed on an industrial scale using the aqueous tape-casting technique. The NiO–yttria-stabilized zirconia Y 2 O 3 –ZrO (YSZ) fuel and YSZ electrolyte manufactured by multilayer co-laminated tape casting. Details of slurry formulations are described discussed. Two types were fabricated with different microstructures NiO–YSZ support Good electrochemical performance stability in SOFC mode at 750 °C 0.7 V for both button reaching around >0.75 W cm −2 no measurable degradation after >700 h observed. selected cell was scaled up to large-area (36 active area) electrochemically tested a single repetition unit (SRU) (Solid Oxide Cell), SOEC Electrolysis Cell) co-SOEC co-Electrolysis mode, short-stack two SRUs mode. A current 17 obtained 1.4 (0.7 −1 ) configuration corresponding ∼0.5 24 W. performances aqueous-based SOC can be considered highly remarkable, thus supporting success scaling fabrication stacks more environmentally friendly processes than conventional ones.
